11. Caloplaca trachyphylla [rough-leaf].
A beautiful rosette-forming orange crust on sandstone, differing from Xanthoria elegans in having a coarse, almost warty thallus with tightly appressed, contiguous marginal lobes. Caloplaca decipiens grows in similar sites but is more yellow in color and differs by having masses of soredia toward the center of the thallus.

12. Psora decipiens [deceitful].
A common desert soil lichen (also occurring on tundra soils) easily recognized by its brick red thallus and black convex apothecia. It is a common component of soil crusts (See also Psora icterica). These crusts take many years to form, and are quickly destroyed by trampling, after which the loose soil can be blown away.
