One of the
most abundant crustose lichens of rock outcrops and cliffs. Its

Lecanora argopholis [silver-spot]. |

|
|
|
|
A lumpy,
yellow-green or sometimes white crust, not lobed, with apothecia
having a rim the same color as the thallus. The disk is a rich
brown color. Lecanora is a very big genus of lichens that
grow on rocks or bark, on the rotting stems of mosses, on dry wood,
or even on bone. With experience with a few species, one can get a
"feel" for the genus, although microscopic study is needed to be
sure. |
