17. Melanelia (Parmelia) subolivacea [somewhat olive-colored].
The old genus Parmelia has recently been broken up into a large number of genera, of which this is one of the so-called "brown Parmelias". This species is very abundant on the bark and twigs of conifers. A few other species occur on conifer bark, and several are found on rocks.

18. Nephroma parile [equal].
A brown lichen with soredia along the margins and on the surface. Resembles Peltigera, but the apothecia are borne on the undersides of the thallus lobes, and the underside is bare (lacking veins).
