How to:
Painting Dots
This technique can be used to paint circles in a variety of sizes, colors, and patterns depending on the size of the dowel and the color of the dye. Here, I used Chefmaster’s black natural food coloring. This technique works best on a fondant cake. To apply dots as shown on the pop art cake, paint the dots in vertical rows, staggering the dots with each row. I eyeball the placement, so the finished look is graphic and imperfect.
TOOLS:
- small dowel
- black or dark colored liquid dye
- paper towels

Dip the end of the dowel into the
dye. Dab off any excess dye on the edge of the bowl or a paper
towel.

Lightly press the end of the dowel
onto a fondant-covered cake to create a dot. While applying the
dots, hold a piece of parchment paper or a paper towel over the
cake to avoid dripping on it.

Repeat to make your desired pattern.
Refresh the dowel with new dye each time to make a clean dot.
