Makepeace took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "Of course. You're
absolutely right, my dear. However, young Melvin, irritating though he may
be,
does have a good point. If Modred can establish a mind link with you at will,
why hasn't he? And it would seem that some sort of mind link would be
necessary
for him to send a telepathic dream image, even briefly, and I have never had
such contact with him before. Neither has Jacqueline."
"Jacqueline?" said Wyrdrune. "Jacqueline Monet?"
Makepeace nodded. "She called me this morning. We've never spoken to each
other
before, you understand. We didn't even know each other. Modred was always
very
careful to keep his contacts separate, but she found out about me somehow—she
said she suddenly just knew— and so she called me. She had a similar dream."
"What the hell is going on?" said Wyrdrune, baffled.
"Wait, there's more," said Makepeace. "Her experience was slightly different.
She remembered more of the dream than I did, or she was given more of it. She
said that Modred was in England."
"England?" Wyrdrune said. "How did she know?"
Makepeace shook his head. "I couldn't really get that part of it straight. It
wasn't a very good connection. But she seemed absolutely certain that he was
in
England, being held prisoner by one of the Dark Ones. Somewhere in or around
London."
Kira nodded. "I don't know why, but it sounds right." She glanced at
Wyrdrune.
"I can't explain it, but suddenly I'm sure he's there."
"None of this makes any sense at all," said Wyrdrune, shaking his head, "but
I
have the same damn feeling. I can't explain it, but the minute he said
London,
it just felt right."
"That settles it, then," said Makepeace, getting up from the table. "We're
going
to London. I'll make arrangements to have one of my colleagues take my
classes.
I'll meet you back at your place in about an hour."
"Whoa, wait just a minute there, Sebastian," said Wyrdrune. "What do you
mean,
we're going to London? Who said you were coming?"
"You're going to take on the Dark Ones all by yourselves?" said Makepeace.
"Even
Modred couldn't handle them alone. What makes you think you could?"
"Because together the three of us are infinitely stronger than we are apart,"
said Wyrdrune. "If you know about the runestones, then you know why that's
so."
