Ray Walker

Hot pants foster daughter

CHAPTER ONE

"We're very happy to have you, Denise," Mrs. Lawson said. She was standing there beside her husband. They were both smiling. "We know we can't really replace your real parents, but we'll do everything we can to make you happy. We know it must still hurt to remember what happened. That was horrible. And you're so. We'll love you just as much as your real parents did, though. We always wanted a daughter. And you're such a pretty girl. It'll be wonderful to have you with us. And Tommy's very excited too. He's really looking forward to having a new sister. He's really looking forward to meeting you. His room is upstairs. I think he's with his friend Ralph now, but I'm sure he'll find time for you."

"Thank you, Mrs. Lawson," Denise said, smiling shyly.

"Oh, no, Denise, you're going to have to call me Mom. And you're going to call my husband Dad, just like Tommy does. Because you're both our children now."

"All right, Mom," Denise replied.

The girl went over to those stairs. She headed upstairs to meet her new brother. She was feeling quite happy.

True, she could probably never feel as happy as she was before that horrible accident just a few months ago. During summer vacation, she and her older brother Larry and their parents had piled into their car for a driving trip across the country. It had all ended with that highway collision with another car, though. And though Denise had miraculously survived without a scratch, her parents and her brother hadn't been so lucky. All three of them had been killed, leaving Denise all alone.

Maybe if she hadn't been the sole survivor, things wouldn't have been so hard to take. And maybe if she hadn't been so [missing text], the loss of her parents and her brother wouldn't have been so shattering. Who was she going to turn to for guidance?

Well, Denise had new parents now. They weren't her real parents, true, but they were very nice people. Denise was glad that they'd adopted her. Maybe she would be very happy being their daughter. And she would be getting a new brother too.

Denise hoped that Tommy would be a nice boy. She'd been very fond of her brother Larry, and maybe she'd grow to like Tommy just as much.

Denise walked down the upstairs hall. This must be Tommy's room, since there was rock music coming out of it. The door was open. Denise looked inside the room.
